בַּדIV m. (b. h.; בדד) chosen, fine linen. Zeb.18b ב׳ שיהו של בוץוכ׳ wherever the Law speaks of garments of bad, it means that they must be of byssus, new Ib. how do we know דהאי ב׳ כיתנא הוא that bad (as material for garments) means linen (and no other fine stuff)? Answ. Something which grows בד בבד in single stalks (v. preced. a. next w.); Yoma 71b. Ib. 35a bad is used four times, intimating מובחר בב׳ the choicest of (for diff. vers. v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note); (cmp. Targ. Jer. 48:30).
